Talk to your DB Dental practitioner to be sure you make the most of your extras dental insurance. Plan your specialist treatments and schedule longer-term items so you don’t miss out on claims.
Don’t waste your extras dental insurance
If you have extras dental insurance make sure you make the best of it – you’re paying for it so get your checks done to allow time for any additional work.
If you’re new to extras insurance you might have waiting periods for some special treatments – if you’re likely to need those treatments, be sure you know when you’re able to claim on them. Check with your DB Dental practitioner to see what is reasonable to postpone and what must be done now.
Most health insurance policies work on a calendar year and you don’t get unused benefits rolled over. So if you plan to get cosmetic work done, it may be possible to have part done towards the end of one year and then finish it in the new year. But don’t forget that holidays can get in the way if you’re not careful.
Checking the fine print
If you’re unsure of what you can claim and when, it’s well worth taking the time to check out the policy so you understand how it works. Read about it online or give the company a call to clarify things you can’t figure out.
As the year is almost halfway through make sure you understand what your annual limits are for particular treatments. Some will just have a yearly amount, but some may have lifetime limits if it’s expensive work such as orthodontics or dental implants.
See where you are with your limits and you’re ready to make the most of what’s left.
If you’re behind on dental checkups, get started now in case you have any issues requiring further treatment. It’s good to see your dentist twice a year for checkups. If you’re planning a holiday it’s also good to get any treatment out of the way beforehand.
More specialist work which is not urgent, such as Invisalign or cosmetic treatments such as porcelain veneers may be able to be planned across two claim periods. Talk with your DB Dental specialist to see if the timing will work for your treatment.
If you want to get specialist work done which is not fully covered by your extras insurance, you may be eligible for DB Dental’s payment plan.
Is your child eligible for benefits?
Some families who receive certain government benefits are eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule. This gives the families of children aged two to 17 financial assistance for basic dental services over two-year periods. If your children are eligible, contact your DB Dental practitioner for information on the services which are available for your children.
