Anxious patients can ease their fears with the Wand
Halitosis, the medical name for bad breath, is caused by sulphur producing bacteria in the mouth. Around 2.4% of the Australian adult population suffer from bad breath and some don’t even realise that they have it.
Symptoms can include:
• White coating on the tongue.
• Dry mouth.
• PIaque build up.
• Constant sour, bitter metallic taste.
• Excessive mucous.
• Post-nasal drip.
• Morning bad breath and a burning tongue.
• Thick saliva and a need to constantly clear your throat.
There is no one treatment for halitosis as it all depends on the underlying cause such as dry mouth, dehydration, smoking, gum disease, certain foods, nasal or sinus infections. Maintaining great oral hygiene is an important way to combat bad breath. Make sure you brush your teeth and tongue at least twice a day, and floss and use an antibacterial mouthwash at least once a day as well.
DB Dental have specialist dentists (Periodontists) who are trained in the diagnosis of periodontal diseases, which halitosis falls under. If you are experiencing any of the symptoms listed, you can request an appointment with one of our Periodontists who will diagnose the source of your bad breath and advise treatment.
