Beautiful skin and a beautiful smile go hand-in-hand. We think it makes sense for dental professionals to look after them both. Going to a qualified dentist is a great idea when it comes to enhancing your facial appearance. More and more dentists are offering things like facial injectables, fillers, and other cosmetic procedures for faces.

Cosmetic injections with a dentist you trust

Dentists are in a fantastic position to provide non-surgical skin care procedures. They're already trained and experienced with the face's nerves, vascular system, and anatomy. As specialists with a thorough understanding of the face's anatomy and aesthetic appearance, it's a natural extension of their expertise.

Formerly, injectable cosmetics from dentists were reserved for jaw joint issues such as acute jaw tension or temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ). Now, they're available for a much wider range of applications.

In addition to having a thorough understanding of the physiology of your face, going to your dentist for cosmetic procedures gives you the advantage of going to someone you can trust. Your dentist will be familiar with your needs, meaning you don't need to find an entirely new professional and facility to get what you want.

It's also a fantastic choice in combination with other cosmetic procedures like whitening, veneers, or any other of our cosmetic services. You can get everything done at the same place with the professionals that you're comfortable with, making it much easier to coordinate for your convenience and overall aesthetic appearance.

How do facial injectables work

Using either Botox or dermal fillers, an injection is made to a specified area of the face. This causes the muscles in your face to relax, smoothing out the lines in your skin for about three to four months. With dermal fillers, these effects can last as long as 18 months after regular treatments. It takes about three days for the results to be noticeable, and about ten days before you will see the maximum results.

There are many types of injectable cosmetics that are used to treat wrinkles. Two of the most common forms which our dentists use are muscle relaxants (like Botox) and Dermal fillers. Both can help make your face appear smoother and more youthful, but there are a few key differences.

Depending on your needs, either one of these options may be useful for you:

Botox

Botox is primarily used for wrinkles, however, it's also known to treat things like muscle dystonias, strabismus, and blepharospasms. When used for cosmetic purposes, Botox is effective for lines that are caused by muscle movements, such as frown lines around the forehead and eyebrows. These are known as dynamic lines, as they're most noticeable when your face is moving.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are used to apply extra collagen to the skin. This helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles known as static wrinkles. These are caused by depleted or sunken skin, and are apparent whether or not the muscles in your face are in motion.

Risks and side effects

Injectables and fillers are some of the safest and least invasive procedures available. Side effects are minimal and occur in only less than 1% of cases. Of these side-effects, the most common is a slight stinging sensation that's rather mild and tends to dissipate quickly. If you are concerned about the side effects, speak to your dental specialist.

With the demand for cosmetic procedures increasing, we're happy to offer facial injections and fillers as part of our overall cosmetic services. Get in touch with our friendly team if you have any questions, and schedule an appointment today to get started on the smile of your dreams.

Frequently asked questions

If you're concerned about frown lines, age lines, or any other kind of fine lines on your face, it's definitely worth asking your dentist what your options are. The most important question is whether you're comfortable with your appearance now and whether smoothing out your skin would make you feel more comfortable.

If you're thinking about getting some work done, regardless of what kind it is, you may want to ask your dentist for their opinion or recommendation.

You may be surprised how well their expertise can enhance the overall quality of your appearance.
